Why Everyone Should Do Forearm
Exercises
Forearm exercises are important for a variety of reasons. It's
important to have strength in the forearms for almost any
activity in which you participate and simple forearm exercises
can help you to achieve greater forearm, hand and wrist
strength. Simple wrist curls using barbells or dumbbells are
ideal to build forearm strength while hanging on a bar by the
forearms will build endurance.
Forearm exercises can help build strength and endurance in your
grip. Whether you're a rock climber or avid golfer, a strong
grip is important. Hand grippers will help improve grip and
finger strength and work your forearms as well.
Forearm exercises can also reduce the risk of injuries like
repetitive stress injuries or carpal tunnel syndrome by
strengthening muscles that perform repetitive tasks.
Forearm exercises can help reduce the pain and stiffness
arthritis sufferers feel. There are simple exercises you can do
that require no equipment and can improve strength and
dexterity. The National Arthritis Foundation has a list of
simple hand, wrist and forearm exercises on their website that
can be done anywhere and involve nothing more than simple
movements. Even simple exercises such as touching your thumb to
each finger can improve strength and endurance in the forearms,
hands and wrists.
Athletes and bodybuilders realize they need to target all the
muscles in order to have a successful workout. While forearm
exercises may not be as complicated as other arm exercises,
they are just as important for everyday activities. Forearm
exercises are good for the elderly and many of these exercises
are ideal for the beginner because they are so low-impact.
Many people with muscle aches and pains wake up each morning
with stiff hands and fingers. Exercising the forearm, hands and
wrists can help ease the aches in many cases however be sure to
check with your doctor before starting any exercise
program.
There are various grippers, balls and sticks on the market to
improve forearm strength as well as hand and wrist strength.
While there is no one piece of exercise equipment that does it
all, you may find some benefit from using these.
To someone suffering from Arthritis or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
or other hand and arm muscle aches, it may be difficult to
drive a car if you experience pain when you grip the steering
wheel. By working your forearms and doing grip exercises, you
may be able to gradually increase your endurance until gripping
the steering wheel doesn’t bother you as much.
Forearm exercises are important regardless of your level of
activity. While these exercises are important for athletes and
bodybuilders, they are also important for those who are much
less active. Many of the forearm, wrist and hand exercises can
be performed without altering your present activity at all. For
example, you can do many of these simple exercises while
sitting in a comfortable chair watching television. Of course,
for those without injury or illness, the more complex exercises
working the forearm down to the fingers are necessary and
beneficial for strength and endurance.
Most of us don't even realize how much we use our hands and
arms each day just doing everyday activities. This doesn't
negate the need for concentrated exercise however but enforces
the idea that we need to take care of this group of muscles
just like we do other muscle groups such as the abdominals and
legs and thighs.
Arm Wrestlers have to have incredible strength and endurance in
their forearms and spend much of their time building up these
muscles. While activities such as driving or golf may not call
for the same level of strength and endurance as arm wrestling
does, doing some of those same exercises can be beneficial for
a myriad of different activities.
