Tips on How to Get and Stay Motivated to
Exercise
Want to start an exercise routine but have troubles getting
motivated to do it? Here are some tips to help you get the
motivation you need so you can get into shape.
First decide on an exercise program by choosing what type of
exercise you want to do. You should consider starting out with
simple exercises like walking. You can always move on to
another one when you get more into a routine and get used to
exercising. If you try to do too much too soon, in the
beginning, you’ll get burnt out and lose interest. A little at
a time is always better for someone starting out.
Another good source of motivation is exercise music. Some nice
uplifting music is good motivation to start and stick with an
exercise routine. There are several websites that sell music to
exercise to. You can check them out, or just compile some of
your own favorites. Music can make a person feel good and if
they feel good they’ll keep exercising.
Try varying your exercise routine with different types of
exercises. Staying with one routine can get monotonous and
boring and you’ll lose interest fast. Check out some other
fitness exercises to add to your routine. You could try ball
exercises, some light weightlifting, or some low-impact
aerobics. Make your daily exercise routine something you look
forward to doing.
Consider getting some exercise fitness gear to perform your
workouts in. A good outfit in your favorite color or maybe just
a new pair of shoes can be enough for some people to get
motivated to work out. Be sure to choose quality clothing
that’s comfortable to wear. An uncomfortable set of clothes
that irritates your skin can cause you to lose interest
fast.
Tape a list of inspirational quotes to a place you would look
at every day. There are many websites and books devoted to
inspiring quotes. They offer that little bit of spiritual
uplifting that one needs from time to time as things happen
within our lives that brings us down. Sometimes that little bit
of uplifting can get us back into our exercise program.
Remember why you wanted to start exercising in the first place.
Is there some outfit that you want to fit into? Maybe you just
want to get into shape to feel better. Whatever your reason is,
always keep it mind. It may just be the extra incentive you
need to get off that couch and into exercising.
Invite a friend or family member to join you. Having someone to
go through it with you and to keep you accountable to your
routine, can help you stay motivated. They can act as your
cheerleader as you root them on as well. Sometimes just simply
having them there is enough to get you going.
One thing most people don’t think about when they start an
exercise routine is to try some deep breathing exercises prior
to their workout. They increase oxygen intake and relax the
body giving you more energy and vitality. You’ll notice that
the breathing exercises are used quite often in Yoga practices.
It is believed they relieve stress, fatigue and even pain at
times.
The benefits of exercise should be enough to get you motivated.
It promotes stronger bones and muscles, lessens the chance of
diseases, minimizes depression and can even reduce high blood
pressure. Always check with your general physician about
starting an exercise routine and make sure to stretch before
performing any exercise.
Motivation is the key to starting any exercise routine. Just
find what works for you and get motivated today to get into
shape.
