What's So Great About Pilates?

The Pilates Method of exercising has become increasingly popular over the years. I don't think that when Joseph Pilates invented the Pilates Method of exercising over 80 years ago, he could have predicted that almost every fitness expert these days would incorporate some exercises from his method into their exercise routines. Much attention in the media and endorsement from celebrities like Daisy Fuentes, Julia Roberts, and Madonna about the Pilates Method have caused the fitness world to sit up and take notice. There have been different versions of the program incorporated into the most popular trends in exercise today, including Power Pilates, Aero Pilates, and Yoga Pilates. The popular fitness expert, Denise Austin, has incorporated the Pilates Method into her brand of exercise training.

Denise Austin has managed to use a lot of different versions of the Pilates exercises in her Pilates-centered techniques. However, she has based all of the variations on the basic movements established by Joseph Pilates many years ago, which concentrate on strengthening the core, basically the muscles of the torso, while increasing flexibility and balance.

The Body and Mind:

One of the main goals of the Pilates Method of exercising is to balance the mind and body. Building muscle tone and increasing strength and flexibility in the muscles by using the core muscles is the primary goal of the Pilates Method. Unlike Yoga, which primarily concentrates on stretching, the Pilates workout build muscle as you stretch, by mimicing the basic movements of everyday life. In addition, a lot of attention is paid to breathing in the Pilates Method, which adds extra oxygen to the blood to the brain, causing improvements in circulation and in removing toxins from the body as you exercise.

Movements:

The Pilates Method use a different approach than other exercise programs by attempting to expand on the basic movements of life. By expanding on the movements that you use everyday, your joints get stronger. Your joints get stronger and more flexible, which allows you to accomplish the everyday tasks much easier, with much smoother body movements.

Posture:

The usual exercise programs like swimming or speed walking, while great for cardiovascular health, focus primarily on general health and strengthening of the muscles. The Pilates Method concentrate on complete body movements and how to improve on them. When you start a Pilates program, you can jump right into the regimen and immediately began to improve your posture. The Pilates Method helps the participant to align the spinal column. The movements in the Pilates Method have been specifically designed to strengthen the muscles surrounding the spinal column and increase the flexibility of the back at the same time. Increasing back strength and improving posture can make the participant feel younger and increase a sense of general well-being.

Flexibility:

Another of the basic goals of the Pilates Method of exercising is to increase flexibility in the muscles, which will lessen the stress on the joints and muscles. One of the best things about stretching to increase flexibility is that it will also build muscle simultaneously. The Pilates stretching exercises, done properly will also help to prevent muscle damage, one of the main reasons that there is such a low rate of injury for the participants of the Pilates Method of exercising.

In conclusion, the Pilates Method of exercising is a body training program that concentrates on involving the body and mind working together to build muscle, increase flexibility and improve posture. Another basic benefit to the participant of the Pilates Method is a reduce in stress and a feeling of general well-being.
