Leg Exercises Anyone Can Do!
Walking is a leg exercise. Of course, walking is the kind of
exercise that benefits the entire body. For those interested in
firm and toned legs, there are exercises that concentrate
specifically on the legs.
While there is a lot of home and gym equipment that
specifically work the legs, there are also simple exercises you
can do without any equipment whatsoever. Leg lifts, for
example, may seem simple and boring but they are great toning
exercises, especially for the beginner. If all you can do is
two or three leg lifts at a time, that's a start. You can
gradually work up to 10 reps on each leg and then move on to
more challenging exercises.
If you have certain physical limitations but still want to keep
your legs toned, speak with your physician about exercises that
will help you to reach your goals without aggravating any
pre-existing conditions you may have. For example, your doctor
or health care provider may be able to advise you on
appropriate exercises such as leg exercises for people with bad
knees or leg exercises for people with arthritis.
If you don't have any particular physical limitations but are
simply looking for new ways to get or keep your legs in shape,
you might consider combining traditional leg exercises with
lightweight equipment such as ankle weights or exercise bands.
Using ankle weights as part of your exercise regimen can add
resistance and new challenges to an old boring routine.
Exercise bands can also add new dimension to an old workout
regimen when you're doing your leg exercises. Some of the
exercise bands come with workout videos and exercise charts you
can follow and keep track of your progress. You can even
purchase a kit that has exercise bands for different parts of
the body.
You can be in a room with nothing but a chair, a wall and a
floor and do enough leg exercises to get and stay toned. The
truth is that while certain equipment makes leg exercises more
entertaining or easier, you have all you need to tone your legs
without expensive equipment.
Some people like to do exercises with their small children.
Whether you're in a group of mothers and children or you are at
home with your own, there are fun leg exercises you can do
together that will keep you toned and promote together time at
the same time. One of the leg exercises that most children like
to do is for you both to lie down on your backs with your feet
touching. Then you simply bring your feet up to a comfortable
height and gently push the feet of the other person in a back
and forth motion.
If you prefer the more heavy-duty equipment to develop and tone
your legs, there are several different types of equipment you
can use, some of which you can use in your home and some of
which you may want to use at a gym. Of course, bicycling is one
of the oldest and best leg exercises and thanks to the
stationary bike, you don't even have to leave your home for
this one.
In fact, to make it fun – and it is important to make it fun
because you'll stick with it longer – you can hang a large map
on the wall and use push pins to map your cycling journey. Set
a goal as to how many miles you'll ride and then break it up
into riding sessions and before you know it, you'll have
arrived at your destination.
