The Best Equipment for Bicep Exercises
Bicep exercises are used to firm and tone the upper arms and are a staple of bodybuilding. These exercises are
typically performed using dumbbells or barbells as well as resistance or other equipment. Equipment used to work
the biceps can range from an inexpensive pair of dumbbells to sophisticated machines costing thousands of
dollars.
The arm curl weight machine is a staple in both home and commercial gyms and is used by bodybuilders and others to
do bicep exercises. Some of these machines work on a pulley system using cables and steel weight plates. It's
important to note that most arm curl machines only work the biceps which is fine if that is your goal but could be
expensive for the home gym purchase.
If bicep exercises are just part of your workout routine however, you may want to try the kinds that while working
the biceps, work other muscle groups as well. For example, you can do bicep exercises with dumbbells or barbells
and work other muscles at the same time and for a lot less money.
Whether your goal is bulging biceps or just well-toned biceps, it's important to do bicep exercises correctly to
avoid injury. As with any other type of exercise, beginners should start small and gradually build up. Even
seasoned weightlifters should warm up before jumping into a challenging routine to prevent bicep injuries. Avoid
prolonging your weightlifting session without resting in between sets as this can lead to injury also.
It's also good to vary your workout routine when you do bicep exercises. Not only will a varied routine produce
more positive results but it will ward off boredom as well. There are only so many ways to do arm curls but you can
vary the equipment by using dumbbells in different weight amounts, barbells and machines.
You can even vary your biceps workout regimen using the same equipment. For example, you can use barbells standing
up or lying on a bench. The different positions allow you to target different muscle groups in addition to working
your biceps. You can vary your routine considerably using dumbbells also. Not only can you change the types of
exercises you are doing but you can start with one dumbbell and build up to two.
You don't have to have expensive equipment to do bicep exercises at home. Whether you have bars, dumbbells, or
other weight training equipment, you can do a variety of exercises that work not only the biceps but other
important muscle groups as well.
You can find an enormous amount of information online about bicep exercises and how to do them. You can even access
free videos that will demonstrate how each particular exercise is done remembering there is a difference between
merely toning up and bodybuilding.
Combining other exercises such as squats with bicep exercises is a good way to get a more productive workout. Doing
squats with dumbbells or a bar will work many more muscle groups than the biceps alone and provide a more
stabilizing workout. A rowing machine can work the biceps while working other muscle groups as well. Rowing
machines are good for working the abs and core muscles, the back muscles, legs and arms.
When you do exercises that work only the biceps, such as preacher curls and some arm curls, you'll want to use
lighter weights than you use when working multiple muscle groups. You risk injury to your biceps when you try to
support too much weight and if you overdo it you risk rupturing the biceps which is quite painful and will take
time to heal.
