Adding Triceps
Exercises to Your Workout Regimen
Just as there are exercises that work only the biceps, there
are specific triceps exercises that isolate this muscle group.
You can work the triceps from different positions to achieve
different results. For example, you can do triceps extensions
lying on a weight bench or from a standing or sitting position.
You can also use the cable and resistance machines for your
triceps exercises.
While there are plenty of exercises that isolate your triceps,
there are plenty too that will allow you to work your triceps
and biceps in the same session. Even when you do triceps
exercises only, you'll want to follow that up with exercises
for the biceps as well so that you will have balance and
achieve an overall toned arm. For those doing these exercises
as part of a bodybuilding routine, you don't want to ignore
your biceps and do triceps exercises only or vice versa.
You might also want to consider wearing a weight or lift belt
when you are doing these types of exercises to avoid back
injury. While you may think you are working only your arm
muscles, many exercises that work the triceps work other muscle
groups, such as the chest, back, abdominals and legs as
well.
It's important to do back strengthening exercises in
conjunction with triceps exercises to avoid injuring your back.
In some, but not all of the triceps exercises, your back is
helping to support the weight you are lifting and it's
important to make sure your back is strong enough to do so.
Many people stagger their workout routines so as to work one
muscle group one day and an entirely different muscle group or
perhaps an entirely different type of workout another day. For
example, you might do weight training exercises such as triceps
exercises on one day and then totally switch directions on the
next day of your workout regimen to aerobic exercise.
To ensure you're getting an effective workout routine, you
might enlist a personal trainer or maybe even an online
exercise trainer to assist you in developing a workout regimen
that will balance your training and give certain muscle groups
the proper rest between workouts. Just spending one session
with an experienced personal trainer can make a huge difference
in the future success of your workout routines.
If you decide to formulate a workout plan with a personal
trainer or an online trainer, make sure you clarify what your
overall fitness goals are. Naturally, your course of action
with triceps exercises and other maneuvers will be quite
different if your goal is bodybuilding as opposed to toning
up.
Even if you do consult with a professional however, it will be
of little use to spend the time and money formulating a workout
regimen if you don't stick with it. Because there are so many
kinds of weight training and fitness exercises and machines,
you should be able to come up with a plan that encompasses at
least some of the routines that you enjoy. Willpower aside,
you're not likely to stay committed to a regimen that is made
of activities you detest.
Some people hate to exercise for the sake of exercising and
prefer instead to get their exercise by doing activities that
they truly care about. Walking, swimming and bicycling are just
some examples that promote physical fitness and work various
muscle groups while at the same time providing a pleasurable
activity.
Whether you're doing triceps exercises to tone up your arms or
are into bodybuilding, don't forget to work the other areas of
your body at the same time for overall health and
fitness.
